SHORT BIO

Chul-joo “CJ” Lee (PhD, University of Pennsylvania) is a Professor in the Department of Communication at Seoul National University. He served as a Department Chair and Graduate Studies Director in the Department of Communication at Seoul National University. Prior to moving to Seoul National University, Lee was an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at the Ohio State University-Columbus. Lee also worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Lee’s research focuses on the interplay between communication and social determinants of health. Lee’s work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (USA), the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Korea. Lee’s research and theoretical contributions appear in more than 71 journal articles and chapters, in publications such as Journal of Communication, Communication Research, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Preventive Medicine, Patient Education & Counseling, Health Education Research, Health Communication, and Journal of Health Communication.

Lee is Co-Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Communication. Additionally, Lee currently serves or has served on the editorial boards of most of the top outlets of the fields of communication and public health including Journal of Communication, Communication Research, Communication Monographs, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Health Communication, Journal of Health Communication, Annals of the International Communication Association, Communication Methods and Measures, International Journal of Communication, Communication Studies, and Nursing & Health Sciences, and as an active reviewer for several other journals.
